Roof-weaved complex in Hoehyeon | 지붕길마을
Yujeong Soh, Graduation Project, 2014
Every building has a happy roof.
One of the problems we face in the city of 'Dom-ino's is the invasion of privacy. While rooftops are taken as the most private space due to their low access, they are physically open and visually public in many cases, thus suggesting a possibility of reconciliation between privacy and publicity.
<Roof-weaved Complex in Hoehyeon> is a morphological approach to the public realm within residential areas. Hoehyeon is located in the old city center in Seoul, with the typical urban form of small block and high density.
By weaving the gabled roofs, public spaces could be intertwined with private spaces without impeding each other. The roofs become the new street, facilitating the local production line, co-working places and retail shops.
The roof-weaved street could also climb the slope of the Mt. Namsan, allowing the public path from the city center to Namsan park, without sacrificing privacy of residential units.
